Description

After working as a truck driver in the crane hire company run in Holland by Van Seumeren, author Jan van Wees became a supervisor in the heavy haulage division of the same company. He began to work with heavy haulage equipment all over the world – and his work became his hobby. Everywhere he went he photographed the activities of Van Seumeren and its competitors.

Jan van Wees's remarkable collection of colour photographs is arranged by truck manufacturer. There are examples from Autocar – DAF – Diamond T – Faun – Ford – FTF – Fuso – Ginaf –International – GMC – Hayes – Iveco – Kamag – Kenworth – Leyland DAF – Mack – Magirus MAN – MAZ – Mercedes – MOL – Nissan – OM – Oshkosh – Pegaso – Scammell – Scania – Sisu – Tatra – Terberg – Titan – Volvo – Willeme.

The locations are wide, from Scotland to Thailand, from Venezuela to Russia and everywhere in between. The load of a 325 ton reactor may make a 40 ton dredger look small – but every photograph has a story to tell about the operator, the truck and trailer, the load and where it was going.
